Leak Detection using the most up to date technology
Does your Leak Detection Company really use state of the art equipment? Did you know most leak detection companies are using equipment that was designed over 30 years ago? One major nationwide company repackages a leak locator designed and marketed in the early 1980’s. Does that sound state of the art? Most leak detection companies still favor the older equipment because of cost, but charge you today’s prices.
Modern leak detection equipment uses some form of DSA or dual segment analysis. How this works is a combination of software and filtering combined to listen to the least loud constant sound. Through filtering you can eliminate unwanted sounds. The software will also work to eliminate intermediate noises and stay on the constant noises. Remember this is a basic explanation of the equipment.
One surefire way to tell if you leak locator is using old technology is to look at his equipment. If it is analog or in other words has a meter that has a needle indicator it is old technology. Goldak 777
The Goldak 777 has been around since the 1980’s. It only picks up ambient sound or the loudest noise heard. It does have very limited filtering. It is still very popular today with locating companies.
Gen-Ear
There are 2 models by Gen-Ear the older GR-B which is older and has more filtering capabilities and the LE model which is newer and a little more compact. Neither model has any form of DSA or software enhancements. The GR-B has been offered since around 2000 and is no longer for sale later the LE which was made by a different company.
Fisher XLT 20 and XLT 30
The Fisher XLT 20 has been around for over 30 years. It has a analog meter as you can see. It has poor filtering adjustments that are not user friendly today’s standards. It is no longer for sale new. The XLT 30 is digital but the filtering is limited and it has no form of DSA and is a old design.
